CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Montgomery County Parks and Recreation has unveiled an inaugural Remote Control park.

The RC Park is located behind the Rotary Park Disc Golf Course off E. Old Ashland City Road. Director of Montgomery County Parks and Recreation, Sally Read, said that the idea for the park came from interest from park patrons.

The park is designed for RC cars, trucks, crawlers and more. The area includes a track, ramps and climbing features designed specifically for RC activities. Prior to the unveiling, residents had no access to an RC track, which left visitors to use the park's parking lot.

Montgomery County Trail Maintenance Specialist Stu Drake looked at opportunities to build the track and saw an underutilized area to convert into the park. Nine years ago, the land had mountain bikes and BMX bikes in mind. It stayed largely the same; Drake said volunteers from the RC community helped with the vision for the new design.

Leaders with Montgomery County Parks and Recreation said the idea was to bring a new type of user to the park, getting more people outdoors in a different way.

"It's finding another way to get more people outdoors in a different way," Read said.

Drake said previously, Chickasaw Trace Park was the closest RC track, so leaders are excited to introduce this type of park closer to home for members of the community.

"It gives them a place to stretch their legs with it and maybe ... we can expand it in the future if we have enough interest in it," Drake added.

Community residents can access the track near the disc golf course, backtrails and amphitheater. Park patrons have been asked to avoid the main driveway where the nature center and the creek are accessible.
