NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro Nashville police are investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old Bahamian man.

According to a news release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, the shooting occurred Saturday morning at Preakness Apartments on Bell Road.

Police said when officers responded, the suspect, who is 31 years old, surrendered and was detained.

Authorities said they found the Bahamian man in the breezeway with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Witnesses told police the shooting was the result of a rent payment dispute. Investigators later learned the suspect was also in a dating relationship with the 26-year-old man who was killed.

Further investigation determined that the victim and the suspect were both armed when the shooting occurred, the MNPD release said.

It is unclear at this time if the victim fired his gun, according to MNPD.

Police transported the 31-year-old suspect to MNPD Headquarters for an interview, but the suspect has not been charged.

Authorities are working to locate the victim's family.

The investigation remains active.
