DAVIDSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — One group in Davidson County is checking in on residents to make sure they stay safe from the heat.

Starting this week, Metro Social Services is checking in on senior citizens and those living with disabilities.

Social Services leaders said any time there's a stretch of severe weather, they give special attention and care to them because they're vulnerable. Home ambassadors conduct daily meal deliveries, and they increase their senior welfare calls to make sure they have medicine and everything they need.

Social Services Communications Manager Harriet Wallace said they also supply emergency meals ready to be dispatched to deliver to their door.

"We don't want anyone to go without food, we don't want anyone to go without medicine, we don't want anyone to go without anything especially our precious seniors and our disabled," Wallace says.

Social services leaders say they received more investment for the program so this year they're focused on more programming and more services to help more people in need.
