NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some Nashville business owners worry about paying their 2025 tax bill because they say they owe tens of thousands more dollars this time around.
Metro Nashville and Davidson County Assessor of Property Vivian Wilhoite said some appraisal values have increased in Davidson County.
"Nashville has had its growth, and that comes as a blessing and a curse," Wilhoite said.
She said the property tax bills for 2025 were sent out this month.
"We want property owners to know we are not trying to stick it to them," she said. "We are not pulling numbers out of the sky. We are doing it to be fair because that is what the state requires us to do."
Bar owner Barrett Hobs calls it sticker shock, saying some businesses owe tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars more this year.
"You can't raise the price of cheeseburgers or beer enough to overcome this type of increase," Hobbs said. "It's a mortal wound to anyone in the business."
Wilhoite said the bill comes from two factors: the value of the property and the tax rate, which is set by the Metro Council.
She said it's too late to appeal the 2025 property value. In January, property owners can start the 2026 appeal process.
