HIGHLAND, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Highland volunteer firefighter was injured Wednesday afternoon in a crash while responding to a fire in Portland.
According to the Highland Volunteer Fire Department, volunteer firefighters were dispatched just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday to assist the Portland Fire Department with a commercial structure fire on Highway 31 West.
Officials said the HVFD's Tanker 101 and Engine 103 — which is the City of Mitchellville's engine — responded to assist. Engine 103 was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 259 near Highway 31 West just before 4:30 p.m.
According to the HVFD, there was one firefighter in the vehicle. The firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to Portland Medical Center for evaluation.
No other people were injured, and no other vehicles were damaged, according to the HVFD.
The Portland Police Department conducted the crash investigation, officials said.
