NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville could be turning the corner when it comes to affordable housing. The Metro Council will vote on five different single or multi-family developments at Tuesday night's meeting.
The five housing proposals are scattered all across Nashville. Fifty-two single-family and 50 multi-family units are proposed for South Nashville, 59 multi-family units in Antioch, 28 multi-family units in the Bordeaux area, 84 multi-family units in East Nashville and 55 multi-family units in the Inglewood neighborhood.

The South Nashville location is located on Old Hickory Boulevard, approximately 2,502 feet southwest of Harris Hills Lane. Fifty-nine units are set for 2304 Hobson Pike, approximately 184 feet east of Beechmist Way, in Antioch. In Bordeaux, 28 units are proposed at the southwest corner of Hydes Ferry Road and East Stewarts Lane. Eighty-four units are planned for East Nashville on Jones Avenue near Hart Lane. The 55 units in Inglewood are proposed for Solley Drive, approximately 150 feet west of Gallatin Pike.
Metro Councilman Jacob Kupin Told News 2 he is excited the state is allowing leaders at the local level to incentivize affordable housing. He explained most developers he talks to want to build affordable housing, but they have to level the playing field to keep it competitive.
"I hear the neighbor push back. I hear the city push back. But when you hear pushback on these proposals, it's infrastructure, it's parking, it's water, it's sewer. And I tell people, we as council members have full control over zoning. I don't have any control over the water or the sewer or the department of transportation. I've got connection with them, good relationships. I can ask for things, but I can't control it in the same way."
The Metro Council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public may view the meeting live online at stream.nashville.gov or the Metro Nashville Network YouTube channel.
