NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is in custody nearly three weeks after he allegedly displayed a gun in front of an officer during a traffic stop in East Nashville.
On June 26, officers conducted a traffic stop on a black Infiniti G35 displaying an unofficial tag, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. As the officer approached the car, he reportedly saw the driver, Marcus Smith, 47, holding a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine between his left leg and the car door.
Court documents said the officer knocked on the car window, and Smith raised the gun where the officer could see it, prompting the officer to retreat.
Smith then drove away, and a police pursuit was not initiated.
Smith was identified after he was found to be connected with incidents in Hendersonville and Madison involving a man in the same vehicle fleeing from traffic stops.
He was located Tuesday, June 15 on Stable Lane in Madison and taken into police custody. During a search of Smith, officers reportedly found a loaded firearm, as well as MDMA and marijuana in his lunchbox.
While speaking with investigators, Smith allegedly admitted to being the person involved in the June incident.
Metro police said he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor drug possession, two counts of possession of a weapon as a felon, felony aggravated assault on an officer, felony evading arrest, two counts of felony probation violation, and misdemeanor alteration of the gun’s serial number. Smith is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $116,500 bond.
