NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 20-year-old man faces felony charges for allegedly fleeing officers at high speeds late Sunday night after he was seen performing driving stunts in East Nashville.
Authorities were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday to the parking lot behind K1 Speed on Davidson Street. According to court documents, officers saw David Banos' vehicle performing the driving stunts while people stood nearby in the parking lot.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Banos reportedly looked at officers through a lowered driver's side window and sped away. Reports said the officers engaged their lights and sirens, but Banos turned the lights on his vehicle off and continued to flee at "extremely" high speeds.
Banos was followed by a Metro police helicopter until he was stopped and apprehended by officers on the ground.
During his arrest, officers reported smelling the strong odor of alcohol from Banos' breath and clothing, which was wet. He allegedly refused to participate in a field sobriety test and was taken into police custody.
Banos was charged with two counts of felony evading arrest in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor aggravated reckless driving, misdemeanor underage driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor underage alcohol consumption.
