GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In an effort to relieve the taxpayer burden for use of the city's community center, Goodlettsville will implement a new fee for nonresident seniors who use the facility.
Starting July 1, nonresident seniors who use the Delmas Long Community Center will have to pay a $2 daily fee or pay a $100 annual fee up front.
According to Goodlettsville Parks and Recreation Director Sarah Jennings, she and her staff began looking at ways to increase revenue for additional staffing needs and thought community usage fees would be the best way to go.
At the latest Parks and Recreation Community Advisory Board meeting, held Tuesday, May 27, Jennings outlined the rationale for the incoming usage fee.
They wanted to create a fee that wouldn't "break the bank" but would still help shift the burden from taxpayers to those who use the facility more directly.
Currently, the city allows adults 60 and older to use the center completely for free. Instead, Goodlettsville taxpayer dollars are used to cover the cost of all senior users—resident and nonresident alike.
"We want this to not be a burden for our taxpayers," Jennings told News 2.
Additionally, Jennings said there would also be "small increases" in usage fees for residents, but they would be "minimal" in scope. The current rates for the center are as follows:
Indoor Track
- Resident per day: $2
- Resident per year: $10
- Nonresident per day: $4
- Nonresident per year: $20
Gym - Adults
- Resident per day: $2
- Resident per year: $85
- Nonresident per day: $4
- Nonresident per year: $170
Youth 17 & Under
- Resident per day: FREE
- Resident per year: FREE
- Nonresident per day: $2
- Nonresident per year: $85
All the new rates will begin July 1, Jennings said.
