FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — A longtime Franklin firefighter was killed in a crash in Bedford County Thursday.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 49-year-old Gregory Tucker was traveling south along Highway 41A. Tucker's vehicle, a 2020 Jeep Glad, crossed the center and overcorrected while negotiating a right curve.
The THP said a 2023 Mack GR6 Dump then struck the Jeep while in the northbound lane. After the collision, both vehicles traveled off the west side of the roadway and caught fire.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, the THP said.
Glenn Johnson, Chief of the Franklin Fire Department, posted a message to Facebook memorializing Tucker, adding that Tucker had been a member of the department for 14 years. A Facebook page for the Franklin Firefighters Association reposted Johnson's message.
"Greg earned multiple awards, including three Phoenix Awards, an Exemplary Service Medal, a Community Service Award, and two Outside Agency Commendations," Johnson's post reads, in part. "His contributions went far beyond official duties. Many of you will remember how he and his wife Kristina stepped up during the pandemic to sew masks for the entire department, even creating a giant one for our mascot Sparky."
The Hendersonville Fire Department extended condolences to Tucker's family in another social media post.
Information about services for Tucker have not been made public yet.
