FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — It was a packed house Tuesday night at a meeting to decide the future of an historic road in Franklin.
Hillview Lane is loved by Franklin residents. They said it's a beautiful road with an iconic tree tunnel hanging over the pavement. It's one of the last roads of its kind in Franklin, and the community is working to protect it.
Tuesday, Aug. 12, city leaders met to discuss a proposed development that would bring 250 homes and a hotel to the end of Hillview Lane.
It could transform Hillview into a wider road with side trails, wiping out the beloved trees.
Many residents have spoken up in opposition to the plan, and they showed up in large force to voice their opinions.
Some city council members argued the plan needs county approval in the first place to be able to move forward on some of the development specifics, like connecting Hillview to Coleman Road.
"It's almost like saying going out to ride a bicycle without wheels on it. That's what we're trying to do here. My goal is to say, let's ask the county to tell us whether or not they're going to give us an interlocal agreement to connect to Coleman Road," Ward 2 Alderman Matt Brown said.
The Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to defer the issue until their November board meeting.
