NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One organization in East Nashville is providing support for women who struggle with alcohol addiction.
TurnKey Recovery owner and CEO Samantha Hess took on her role after her father passed away. She wanted to give back to her community in a meaningful way and always felt the desire to provide services for people who are underprivileged.
Hess said women are highly underserved, especially within the sober-living space. She wanted to allocate resources to help them not only daily but help them navigate their future lives, which is where the name TurnKey Recovery was born. The name of the organization represents turning the key to the rest of your life.
Casey Burks is the executive director of TurnKey Recovery. Burks is currently in her eighth year of recovery from alcohol. Going through the sobriety process herself, she has also lived in sober living homes.
Burks said TurnKey Recovery wants to provide a supportive environment for women to come into and set them up for success. Some women who come into the TurnKey Recovery program are in need of financial assistance or need support, and they want to help ease those burdens as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
The program offers free groceries, coaching services, nutrition and fitness services, monthly beauty services, a place to live and academic coaching.
“We really want to create a supportive environment where women are supporting women,” Burks said. “And we elevate them to the next level of their recovery.”
TurnKey Recovery just established a sober living home in East Nashville. Due to the amount of services they’re providing and the need, there is a waitlist for the home. Hess said they plan to open a second location on Dec. 1 and another one that’s under construction.
“Many people out of recovery may not have transportation, so we go to them with the beauty services, with the groceries,” Hess said.
Burks says she felt like her life had no purpose before joining TurnKey. She had a desire to combine her love for health and fitness with her recovery process.
“Some of these women struggle physically, emotionally still, or they’re starting over again with nothing,” Burks said. “I know what that’s like and the feeling of not knowing what’s next. And we try to help provide a pathway with what is your next step.”
There are certain guidelines that are required for the program including meetings, staying employed and a curfew.
Burks and Hess want any women in need of assistance to reach out to them and ask for help. They’re willing to provide resources to help women on the right path.
Anyone interested can fill out an application to get into the program.
