Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities are working to identify the driver involved in a hit-and-crash that resulted in the death of a man Tuesday night in North Nashville.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the crash happened at the intersection of Dr D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and 17th Avenue North.

A preliminary investigation reportedly indicates that a 67-year-old —only identified as a Nashville man— was lying in the middle of the roadway when a black Jeep hit him and continued to travel northbound.

Police said the 67-year-old was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.

Tuesday's crash marks the sixth hit-and-run incident that has occurred in the Nashville area in a span of a week. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, a 33-year-old motorcyclist struck a light pole after being hit from behind by a silver Mercedes in Old Hickory. The driver, a 23-year-old, was charged after later admitting her involvement in the crash, police said.

Then, on Thursday, Sept. 11, a pedestrian was hit at the intersection of Fourth Avenue South and Korean Veterans Boulevard. The pedestrian, identified as a 28-year-old from North Carolina, later died from his injuries. Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man from Murfreesboro was taken into custody after he allegedly called dispatch to admit he was the driver responsible.

Hours later, at approximately 8:20 p.m., a pedestrian crossing Haywood Lane near Hopedale Drive was struck by a dark-colored Dodge Charger. The 32-year-old man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died. Authorities have yet to find the Charger or driver involved in the deadly crash.

Days later, on Saturday, Sept. 13, a woman was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of 16th Avenue and Broadway. She was reportedly taken to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, and the vehicle involved left the scene.

In addition, Metro police said a 13-year-old boy was struck by a white Ford Fusion at the intersection of Shelby Avenue and 5th Street Monday, Sept. 15. He was reportedly taken to Monroe Carrell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with a possible broken leg.

No additional information about the incidents were immediately released.
