Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One final day of intense heat is expected Tuesday. With a cold front on the way, temperatures could get close to 100° Tuesday afternoon and feeling hotter. Also with this front, a few storms will be possible with even a small risk of a strong to severe storm.

Heat Advisory

A Heat Advisory is effect for most of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky through 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday's feels like temperatures could get as high as 105°+ (especially west of I-65) as this front slowly approaches the region. This number could be near 110° closer to the Tennessee River.

Heat relief

Heat relief is coming our way! After Tuesday's highs in the middle to upper 90s, we will drop back into the lower 90s and 80s for the remainder of the week. Rain chances are on the increase for late Tuesday into Wednesday.

Storm chances

With this heat relief, there is a cold front moving toward our region. This front may set off a few strong storms on Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning. A Marginal Risk (level 1/5) has been added for the northwest counties of the WKRN viewing area.

This is an extremely low risk for a strong to severe storm, with the primary threat being wind gusts. Given the very warm air and moisture, any storm will produce some brief heavy rain and lightning.

The storm timing for Tuesday into early Wednesday morning should stay focused north of I-40. We'll watch for storm development near the Ohio River and then slide south into the evening and early overnight.

On Wednesday, there is not a severe risk at this time. We expect scattered storms from about midday through late afternoon as highs reach the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Lower rain chances Thursday into Friday, with temperatures holding in the 80s to lower 90s. Thankfully it will not be as hot. Next week, we're tracking a much cooler pattern! The Climate Prediction Center is showing below average temperatures to end the month of August. This means highs in the 80s, lows in the 60s (or even some 50s).
