CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — All schools in the Cheatham County School District are closing early Monday due to a "potential threat," announced school officials.

The Cheatham County School District posted on social media just after 10 a.m. that schools would be closing "out of an abundance of caution."

"We believe it is in our best interest to close schools. We are working with the Tennessee office of Homeland Security and local law enforcement to determine the validity of this threat," read a statement released Monday morning.

The Cheatham County Sheriff's Office told News 2 that at least three schools in the district received threatening voicemails overnight.

At 11 a.m., all schools in the district will close. Officials said families can begin picking up their children at 10:30 a.m. and buses will run their regular routes.

In addition to early dismissal, activities and the extended daycare program will reportedly close as well.

No additional information about the potential threat was released.
