LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One La Vergne family got quite the shock when an SUV crashed into their home before backing up and speeding away Saturday night. La Vergne police said the driver did get away, but not for long.

A home security camera captured the whole event. Homeowner Ericka Alvarado said they were in shock.

"We saw the glass, concrete — everything on top of us," Alvarado told News 2. "My husband looked at me and we were just in shock. We couldn't believe [it] — what is this?"

Alvarado and her husband were sitting in their living room when the SUV crashed through their front porch and into the home mere feet from where they had been.

"It was a terrible experience," Alvarado added. "Something that you don't expect to happen."

Their son was asleep upstairs.

"It was even worse when we saw the guy trying to get out and making all this noise with the tires," Alvarado said. "My son was upstairs and he runs — 'Mom!' And we were like, 'We're okay.'"

La Vergne police said that Joaquin Morales Bravo was allegedly behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Chief Chris Moews said that officers acted quickly to find him after the crash.

"They got a description of the suspect vehicle and within 15 to 20 minutes or so, they found the vehicle driving along Old Nashville Highway and they were able to make a traffic stop," Moews said.

Bravo has been charged with driving under the influence. Additionally, he had warrants out of Smyrna for driving under the influence and evading arrest.

"This is a great example of La Vergne officers responding in a timely manner, saturating the area, finding a dangerous person and taking him off our streets," Moewes said.

Alvarado has a message for drivers.

"I just want to make everybody out there conscious," Alvarado said. "If you drink, please don't drive. You're not only putting yourself in danger; you're also putting other families in danger, too."
