FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Franklin Police Department released body camera videos from the arrest of former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler.
In October 2024, Cutler was arrested in Franklin after police responded to a minor traffic collision where he had rear-ended another vehicle. He allegedly attempted to flee the scene after offering the other driver $2,000 to not call the police, according to court documents.
The 41-year-old Vanderbilt University graduate was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care and violation of the implied consent law.
The video shows officers responding to the crash. The victim immediately tells officers Cutler tried to flee after the crash but was stopped by a dead end.
An officer explains to the drivers they will not be taking a crash report since the damage to the vehicles was less than $1,500.
An impairment officer asks Cutler how much alcohol he has had today and he said none. He asks Cutler not to lie to him and asks again so Cutler replies, "a lil bit." The officer then asks if he will perform a field sobriety test. Cutler said no and was immediately placed in handcuffs.
Cutler was patted down and taken to a waiting patrol car.
Cutler served two and a half days in the Williamson County jail for DUI. The gun charge was dropped as part of his guilty plea.
He is on supervised probation for a year, which will feature random and regular drug tests and paid a $350 fine. His driver’s license was also revoked.
Cutler was married to reality star Kristin Cavallari before their divorce in 2022. He was a quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins during his 12-year career. He retired from the NFL in 2017.
