Description

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was sentenced to more than a decade in prison for trafficking over 2.5 pounds of cocaine through Tennessee, according to Sumner County officials.

Thomas Dean, District Attorney General for Sumner County, posted an announcement about the sentencing to social media Thursday. Dean said William Davis was arrested on Interstate 65 in Millersville by a member of the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

When law enforcement "discovered a large quantity of cocaine" hidden in the vehicle, Davis reportedly admitted he was transporting the drugs from Alabama to Kentucky. Ultimately, more than 1,200 grams — or about 2.5 pounds — of cocaine was recovered from the vehicle.

Dean added that Davis has a prior conviction for cocaine trafficking out of Kentucky. Authorities recovered text messages from his phone documenting the distribution of both cocaine and marijuana across multiple states.

On Tuesday, Judge Jennifer Nichols sentenced Davis to 12 years in prison.
