HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nearly two years after it was destroyed in a tornado, a Sumner County church is preparing to reopen its doors.
Gospel Movement Church is just one of the many building that were destroyed in that 2024 tornado outbreak.
It's taken time to recover and rebuild, but Lead Pastor Daniel Johnson said they've always had faith God would provide for them.
Johnson told News 2 the tornado didn't only destroy their building, but also much of their equipment as well.
The church then moved into a school, temporarily holding their services inside while they rebuilt.
That rebuilding process took longer than they through it would, but now all that waiting is finally about to pay off.
Johnson said the new building is even better than their last one, and now his faith is even strong.
"The hardest part was easily believing and keeping the hope alive that our story would end well and our story wouldn't just be we lost our church in a tornado and we never had a place to worship again," he told News 2. "What kept us was our faith in the story of Jesus, which is His life ends in death, but ultimately the story ends in resurrection. We just kept believing God could bring life out of the ruins of what happened in the tornado."
The grand opening of GMC is at 10 a.m. next Sunday, Nov. 2.
