NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Multiple employees and Metro officers were assaulted at a business in East Nashville Tuesday evening.
Officers were called to a bar undergoing renovations in the 600 block of Gallatin Avenue around 6 p.m. for reports of a disorderly person.
Three employees told officers a man entered the bar and began loading liquor bottles into his backpack. When they confronted the man, later identified as 26-year-old Mario Stewart, he began throwing bottles at them, according to court documents.
Stewart reportedly punched one employee in the face/head and hurt his foot while another suffered an injury to his hand. Metro police reported Stewart grabbed a wallet off the bar that contained $150 in cash and ran away.
Officers later stopped a suspect matching his description and the victims confirmed Stewart was the man who assaulted them. According to arrest documents, Stewart became aggressive, cussed at officers and resisted arrest. While being placed in a patrol vehicle, officers said he kicked the door and later spit on them.
According to arrest reports, Stewart has an extensive criminal history in West Tennessee.
Stewart was booked into the Metro jail and charged with three counts of bodily assault, theft of property, vandalism, resisting arrest, felony burglary and two counts of assault against an officer. His bond was set at $77, 500.
