LINCOLN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The United States Geological Survey reported an earthquake in Middle Tennessee Saturday evening.
The USGS said there was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake near Tennessee's border with Alabama about two miles southwest of Park City at about 7:10 p.m. The earthquake was measured at a depth of about 1.7 miles.
According to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, most people do not feel any impacts of earthquakes with a magnitude less than 3.0. In this case, there were no reports of damage or shaking.
In a social media post, TEMA said the event served as a reminder that earthquakes can happen in Tennessee. On average, there are hundreds or more small earthquakes each year in the central U.S.
