LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- An attempted traffic stop in La Vergne Thursday evening led to the arrest of a minor for several serious charges, including kidnapping.
According to the La Vergne Police Department, an officer tried to stop a vehicle for maintaining its lane around 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, but the driver refused to pull over, sparking a pursuit.
When the car entered the Lake Forest subdivision, authorities said they "strategically terminated" the chase out of caution due to the neighborhood's layout and the potential risk to bystanders. However, officers flooded the area and -- with help from a vigilant tipster -- quickly tracked down the vehicle.
Police said they found five juveniles in front of a home, but none of them had any ties to that residence. The driver had allegedly parked the car inside the garage of the unfamiliar house in an attempt to avoid capture.
According to officials, four of the minors said they asked the driver to stop and feared for their safety.
Law enforcement announced shortly before 10 p.m. that the driver was being processed through the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center. He reportedly faces some serious charges: felony evading, four counts of felony reckless endangerment, and four counts of kidnapping.
"We’d like to thank the community member who called in the tip. That kind of involvement directly impacts how quickly and effectively we can respond," the La Vergne Police Department posted on Facebook. "We want to remind our community that the La Vergne Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable through vigilant patrols and swift response. If you see something, say something, together, we keep this city safe."
No additional details have been released about this incident.
