MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — Wawa company leaders officially broke ground Tuesday on the company's first location in Murfreesboro, one of six they plan to open in Middle Tennessee before the end of 2026.

Currently, site plans for three locations have been approved by the Murfreesboro City Council. Those will be built on Veterans Parkway, Bradyville Pike and New Salem Highway.

Northeast natives showed up to Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony, eager to welcome the chain to Middle Tennessee.

“I think it's really going to bring the community together because the people who love Wawa are loyal fans," Murfreesboro resident Heather Gravley told News 2. "They are like the Eagles; they are like the Phillies. They just love their Wawa. They love the hoagies, bringing hoagies to Tennessee is huge, not subs, hoagies. And the coffee. This town is such a wonderful town and such a wonderful community with the most beautiful spirit, and to have a company like this come to our area... and it is a taste of home."

Each Wawa location employs about 35 people. Over the next 10 years, company leaders plan to open 50 Wawa locations across Middle Tennessee.
