WAYNE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating the circumstances surrounding a "serious boating accident" on Kentucky Lake in Wayne County.
According to TWRA, the accident happened at approximately 2:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. The preliminary reports indicate 37-year-old Matthew Hubble, of Brookland, Arkansas, was boating with a group of friends when he was ejected from his boat and entered the water.
Hubble's boat was one of multiple vessels the group was operating at the time, per TWRA, and all were traveling together when Hubble was ejected.
Witness statements to TWRA indicated the group immediately initiated a search for Hubble and located him, bringing him aboard one of their vessels. He was transported to Clifton Marina, where first responders provided medical assistance. However, Hubble succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
According to TWRA, this is the 23rd boating-related fatality in Tennessee for the year. Hubble was not wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details were immediately released.
