NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Thursday, the Republican-led House of Representatives voted to send President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" to his desk. Tennessee lawmakers have had some reactions to the legislation.
Thank you President Donald J. Trump for your leadership to secure our Nation’s border, expand school choice, ensure America’s energy dominance, and deliver the largest tax cut in history.
Tennesseans are grateful for your commitment to putting America First.
Gov. Bill Lee
I’m thrilled to see the House has passed our One Big Beautiful Bill and that it will be sent to President Trump’s desk by Independence Day.
Promises made, promises kept!
Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill"
The One Big Beautiful Bill will unleash a new era of American-made energy dominance! We are in a race for global energy dominance, and the OBBB will ensure we win that race and lead the world in developing and deploying new nuclear technologies!
Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill"
Hey everybody. Just leaving the House floor — "big, beautiful bill" just passed. I know that's not much news right now, but let's talk about what's in it for Tennesseans: the average Tennessean will not see a $2,000 increase on their taxes. You will see border security. We will see defense against missile strikes, which we've come to find out are more and more of a possibility — especially with drone technology and that type of thing.
It will unleash America's energy potential, I believe, with getting us back to what we've got. We've got oil in the ground. We've got gas in the ground. We've got coal in the ground, and we can start with these small nuclear reactors. We've gotten great assistance out of our EPA. My buddy Lee Zeldin is running that outfit. He's permitting stuff a whole lot faster than in the past. It would take six to eight years, then bureaucracy was just a nightmare. The only people making money on that are the freaking lawyers A lot in that bill. There will be a lot coming out about it. I think you're going to be very pleased.
Did we get everything we wanted? Heck no, but as I used to say in Nashville, 'If everybody's a little uncomfortable about a bill, that usually means it's a good piece of legislation.' I think, ultimately, it's going to be a good piece of legislation. I wish we had cut down some of the spending, especially with Defense, but there is money in there for the drones and the hypersonics and all those other things; you can Google all that stuff, but anyway, I'm on about an hour and fifteen minutes of sleep and I'm not in college or high school anymore, so thank y'all for sending me here.
Rep. Tim Burchett, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill," via a video message. In a post to X, he added "The @realDonaldTrump Big Beautiful Bill passed. Thank you for your patience America."
Today, the House took a historic step toward restoring trust in government by passing meaningful reforms that put the American people first. The One Big Beautiful Bill is about ensuring taxpayer dollars are used wisely, those who genuinely need help receive it, and our communities are safer, stronger, and more secure. This bill enhances Medicaid for the truly vulnerable, strengthens our border, cuts wasteful spending, and invests in the future of American families. It reflects the values of accountability, compassion, and commonsense that folks in East Tennessee and across the country expect from their government. That is why I voted yes for the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Rep. Diana Harshbarger, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill," adding in a post to X "PASSED. President @realDonaldTrump's One Big Beautiful Bill is heading to the @WhiteHouse for his signature. My statement:"
The One, Big, Beautiful Bill isn't just legislation—it's a declaration of war on the failed policies that destroyed American prosperity. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill isn't just legislation—it's a declaration of war on the failed policies that destroyed American prosperity.
Rep. John Rose
The good people of Tennessee's fourth congressional district gave me a mandate in November: fix the economy that the Biden administration broke. Today, I'm proud to say we have taken a monumental step towards that with the passage of President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill.
It restores the American Dream. For far too long homeownership, starting a business, and even buying groceries has been out of reach for so many in our country. Today, marks the beginning of a return to economic prosperity for middle class Americans.
Rep. Scott DesJarlais, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill"
President Trump and House Republicans just made history. I spent hours at the White House with President Trump and Speaker Johnson, whipping votes for the One Big Beautiful Bill. This game-changing bill will launch: –– Historic tax cuts
–– Stronger borders
–– No taxes on tips & overtime
–– A war chest for ICE patriots to deport every last invader
–– American energy dominance
–– The Golden Dome
Under President Trump’s leadership, we’re reversing Big Government damage and crushing the Democrat cronies’ agenda. This is why he deserves serious consideration for a third term — and why he belongs on Mt. Rushmore.
Rep. Andy Ogles, who voted in favor of the "big, beautiful bill"
Trump is expected to sign the bill at 4 p.m. Friday, July 4.
