HARTSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Almost has year has passed since Tennessee Trooper Adam Cothron was shot while conducting a traffic stop in Putnam County.
Cothron sustained serious injuries in the July 19, 2024 incident, but continues to recover every day.
To honor him, Trousdale County's Independence Day Parade made him this year's grand marshal.
"Truly a humbling experience," Trooper Cothron told News 2. "I'm honored to be born and raised in this community in Trousdale County."
According to Cothron, he goes to therapy twice a week in Nashville and is getting stronger. As he progresses, he is getting movement throughout his body and legs. He expects to see a lot of progression in the next 12 months.
Before the parade, several other troopers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol showed their support to Cothron, and also rode behind him during the parade.
The parade brought people throughout the community together to celebrate the country's independence. Many of the floats had patriotic themes and those on board threw candy out to kids as they passed by.
Organizers of the Fourth of July parade also gave an honorary grand marshal to David Baldwin — a man who recently passed away.
