NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Traffic stops involving ICE led to tense moments over the weekend. Many are now on edge and are searching for loved ones after three charter buses were seen leaving the Homeland Security field office in Nashville on Sunday.
It remains unclear where those charter buses were heading. However, one woman named Anna, who didn't want to go on camera, told News 2 that she and her fiancé were two of those detained early Sunday morning.
“He made a signal, and the next thing you know we have lights flashing, all are in our faces, there's Immigration pulling us out of the car, claiming they're ICE. Their things said FBI on them, so I was like, 'okay, can I see a paper that says that you're ICE and why you're taking a hold of me right now.' They didn't say anything, they just separated us together, they pulled us into a van,” Anna recalled.
According to Anna, she and her fiancé were pulled over for their windows being too tinted. However, she claims the windows in the vehicle were down. Then, she said they were both separated and placed into separate vans before being brought to an ICE field office in North Nashville.
“There were like four or five cells in there," Anna described. "All the females were in one, the guys were in the other ones. Like I said, they were all crowded out, they were bunched up shoulder to shoulder, it was very hot in there because they turned the AC’s off inside there. You literally have to go to the bathroom in front of everybody, you know, they watch you.”
At approximately 6 a.m. Sunday morning, Anna said one officer told another to stop bringing more people in. She was released a few hours later around 11 a.m. However, the fate of her fiancé remains unclear.
“Just my biggest fear is my son. To get separated from him because they way they're doing things, I don't know if I get pulled over, they take my son, they don't tell me where he's at, that's my biggest fear,” Anna said.
Anna added that she refused to sign voluntary deportation papers but still has a court appearance scheduled for August in Memphis.
