NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities have obtained warrants for a man in connection with an altercation that escalated Monday evening and left two people injured, including his own daughter.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers were sent to the intersection of South 6th Street and Sylvan Street at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, to respond to reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they reportedly learned that a 16-year-old had sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. During an interview with detectives, she allegedly stated that her father—identified as 45-year-old Bert Watkins—was involved in a fight with another man. At some point, she claimed she saw her father pull out a gun, heard a shot shortly after and realized she had been struck in the hand.
Upon further investigation, law enforcement learned that the 29-year-old man involved in the altercation with Watkins was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for "fight injuries."
When detectives went to the emergency room to interview the man, he reportedly appeared heavily intoxicated and stated he exchanged words with Watkins, which then escalated to a physical fight. In addition, he alleged that Watkins pulled out a gun and hit him in the side of the head with it, which led the gun to discharge.
