SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Charges are pending after a 17-year-old reportedly got into a fight with his father after his father shot the family dog "for killing chickens."
The Sumner County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a stabbing call at a Cottontown residence Monday morning. Authorities obtained statements saying that the teen heard a gunshot from inside the home and went outside to a henhouse to check. The father had reportedly shot the dog "for killing chickens," according to the SCSO.
The teen allegedly stabbed his father twice; a struggle ensued before the teen went inside the home to get a handgun. The teen came back outside and fired multiple rounds, but the father was able to leave the property and get help.
The father sustained non-life threatening injuries and got medical treatment at the scene. Sumner County authorities were able to take the teen into custody without further incident.
"The entire situation is tragic,” Sumner County Chief Deputy Tommy Greer said. “Anytime a family dispute turns violent, especially involving a juvenile, it’s heartbreaking for everyone involved.”
The SCSO said that the investigation is ongoing.
