HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- An arrest in Nashville helped the Hendersonville Police Department find an alleged porch pirate.

According to authorities, the suspect followed an Amazon truck around a Hendersonville neighborhood on Sunday, Aug. 10, stealing packages and grabbing a backpack from inside a resident’s garage. The backpack itself had more than $10,000 worth of videography equipment inside.

Law enforcement collected doorbell camera surveillance footage of the porch pirate, who looked familiar to HPD.

“This suspect looked like one that broke into Planet Fitness on July 27,” explained HPD Cmdr. Jimmy Garrett. “It’s on Benita Parkway also.”

As Garrett mentioned, a Hendersonville Planet Fitness was nearly burglarized more than two weeks ago, around the same time of day as Sunday’s incident. The suspect was reportedly caught stealing tools from the gym by an employee.

“Then, he got on his [stolen] motorcycle and fled,” Garrett detailed. “We got in a pursuit of him. We ended up stopping the pursuit because it's a motorcycle and it became dangerous, but the items that he had taken and dropped, our officers fingerprinted.”

The commander said the fingerprint evidence came back to Jeremiah Cox.

“We find out he may be an unhoused person in the Metro area. It just so happens, on Tuesday morning, about 3 o’clock, Metro arrests him for an unrelated case. He was in the park, they arrested him, he had a lot of property with him,” said Garrett.

After meeting Cox in jail, Garrett said police found nearly everything stolen on Sunday, linking Cox to both crimes.

Cox now faces multiple charges in Hendersonville, including aggravated burglary, theft of property, reckless endangerment, and vandalism.

“If we didn’t share information and share ideas, and the community didn’t provide us the video, none of this would have been solved,” said Garrett. “This guy would still be out doing what he’s doing, committing the crimes. As soon as he gets out for his unrelated crimes in Metro, he would go right back out and do it again.”

According to Garrett, Cox is still being held by Nashville authorities.
