COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Columbia Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that led to the death of a 63-year-old woman Thursday morning, and they're asking for help from the public to find the suspect.

Just before 5 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, the CPD responded to reports of a pedestrian in the roadway along Tom J. Hitch Parkway near an apartment complex. Officers found Teresa Nelson dead at the scene, according to law enforcement.

Police added that Nelson was last seen at her residence around 4:30 a.m. and emergency services were notified about the incident at approximately 4:50 a.m. The CPD called it "a narrow timeline of events leading up to the fatal collision."

"The Columbia Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to Teresa Nelson’s family and loved ones, as well as to all those affected by this tragedy," the CPD wrote, in part, on social media.
