Description

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An organization that's described itself as "the world's largest advocate for air passenger rights" has placed the Nashville International Airport among its top 10 list of best airports.

The ranking from AirHelp, which analyzes airports with more than 30,000 flights between June and August 2025, found that about one-third of BNA flights were disrupted during that time frame — landing it the number seven spot. For this ranking, disruptions included delays and cancellations.

Their full ranking of Best Airports is below:

  1. Los Angeles International Airport: 26.6% of flights disrupted
  2. San Francisco International Airport: 27.3% of flights disrupted
  3. Salt Lake City International Airport: 28% of flights disrupted
  4. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport: 30.5% of flights disrupted
  5. John F. Kennedy International Airport: 32.6% of flights disrupted
  6. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport: 33.3% of flights disrupted
  7. Nashville International Airport: 33.6% of flights disrupted
  8. Boston Logan International Airport: 34.1% of flights disrupted
  9. Harry Reid International Airport: 34.2% of flights disrupted
  10. Washington Dulles International Airport: 34.5% of flights disrupted

Overall, Nashville's percentage of disrupted flights came in just shy of the national average, which was 35.3%.

News of AirHelp's report came during the same week as heavy traffic issues near BNA left multiple passengers stranded. Viewers submitted several photos of passengers getting out of vehicles on Interstate 40 to walk toward the airport with their luggage. Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell heard it was an "atypical" day at BNA.

In a statement to News 2, BNA attributed the problems to what they called an "unprecedented surge" in rideshare demand as well as a high number of NFL fans and high attendance at several Middle Tennessee conventions.

The report's findings also coincided with the release of J.D. Power's annual airport satisfaction study, which also placed BNA within the top 10 large airports within the U.S. Based on a 1,000 point scale, BNA scored 676. Their ranking of the top 10 large airports is below, along with the number of points each airport scored:

  1. John Wayne Airport: 730
  2. Tampa International Airport: 709
  3. Dallas Love Field: 705
  4. Kansas City International Airport: 691
  5. Raleigh-Durham International Airport: 688
  6. Portland International Airport: 683
  7. Nashville International Airport: 676
  8. Vancouver International Airport: 671
  9. Salt Lake City International Airport: 665
  10. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport: 664

According to AirHelp, Nashville still had fewer flight disruptions than their 10 worst airports, which include:

  1. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport: 48.4% of flights disrupted
  2. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport: 44.9% of flights disrupted
  3. Charlotte Douglas International Airport: 42.7% of flights disrupted
  4. Philadelphia International Airport: 42.3% of flights disrupted
  5. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport: 41.4% of flights disrupted
  6. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: 40.7% of flights disrupted
  7. Ronald Reagan National Airport: 40.3% of flights disrupted
  8. New York LaGuardia Airport: 40.2% of flights disrupted
  9. Newark Liberty International Airport: 39.5% of flights disrupted
  10. O'Hare International Airport: 39% of flights disrupted

In addition to analyzing flight disruptions by airport, AirHelp also found the most disrupted routes in the U.S. — none of which included any routes through BNA. They were:

  • Fort Lauderdale (FLL) à Tampa (TPA): 90.3% flights disrupted
  • Tampa (TPA) à Fort Lauderdale (FLL): 90.2% flights disrupted
  • Chicago (ORD) à New York (LGA): 42.7% flights disrupted
