NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Several major upgrades will happen across Nashville greenways to better serve residents. One of those upgrades includes new lighting.
The 440 Greenway project is part of a planned 35-mile urban greenway loop that will surround Nashville’s core and connect it to adjacent neighborhoods.
The section meant to connect to Centennial Park just completed its final design phase. Another planned segment will connect neighborhoods and link Browns Creek Park with Sevier Park and Community Center.
Another roughly mile-long extension called the Whites Creek Greenway extension will connect the Hartman Community Center to Buena Vista Pike and it's currently in its final design phase. Metro Parks has been working with Piedmont Healthcare on the project because a large portion of the greenway is at their current location, and a pedestrian bridge will also be installed for residents.
Recently, Metro Parks developed new lighting standards to enhance safety along the city's greenways. Cindy Harrison with Metro Parks Greenways, Trails and Open Space said that by the time upgrades are done, residents will notice a huge difference across their greenways.
“Lighting greenways is a little bit new for us, so we’re working through that proces," Harrison said at Tuesday's Metro Parks meeting. "We have some really interesting situations where some of these greenways go directly behind residences. They go through commercial areas. We’re trying to address all of those situations."
