LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The City of La Vergne is moving forward with a major development called Twinning Station, a mixed-use development project planned just off the west side of I-24 along Waldron Road.
The 77-acre project will bring new residential and office space, as well as shops, restaurants and entertainment options. La Vergne's economic development director said the Twinning Station will add hundreds of jobs to the area and bring in millions of dollars in tax revenue to the city.
“Historically, there's nothing like this that’s ever been done in La Vergne, and I'm going to go on a limb and say this will be one of its kind in Rutherford County," La Vergne Economic Development Director Tom Broeker told News 2. "It's upwards of $350,000 million to $500 million; it's still evolving. We have had great interest from retailers and businesses that want to be there at this point. It will be something that will be a game changer for La Vergne forever."
City leaders said the Twinning Project plans to serve people living in the 11,000 homes built within a three mile radius of the site, which spans households in Rutherford, Davidson and Williamson counties. That surrounding area also happens to have one of the highest median incomes in the region at $110,000.
"The city has about a billion dollars plus in leakage where our sales tax dollars go outside of the city," La Vergne Mayor Jason Cole told News 2. "This gives that opportunity for our residents to keep their sales tax dollars in the city, which funds our police, our fire and our road improvements. Additionally, where this is located, it's going to pull from Davidson County, from Williamson County, from other areas to reverse that leakage and bring those dollars into our city."
Cole said the city has approved and funded widening Waldron Road from Interstate 24 to the city line to accommodate increased traffic. They're also looking to add a new road at Blair Road and Waldron Road, and setting aside land for a future fire station and EMS bay.
The city hopes to have shovels in the ground by next spring, and if everything goes as planned, Cole said the development should be finished by 2030 or 2031.
