CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Over the years, Clarksville has lost a lot of its native tree canopy because of storms and flooding. However, a new organization is launching an initiative to combat the issue.
Replant Clarksville officially launches this month, first focusing on schools that have a lack of trees.
After that, Replant Clarksville will focus on new neighborhood developments that don't have any trees yet.

The group isn't just going to plant any trees. Replant Clarksville has an environmentalist on their board who will focus on finding native trees that will thrive in each spot they plant.
The president of Replant Clarksville says they hope that this not only makes each neighborhood more beautiful but also helps mitigate flooding.
"Everybody recognizes the amount of growth we've had and the deficiency of trees. In Clarksville, in particular, we've had a lot of flooding, and you can tie flooding back to loss of tree canopy and roots and root systems, so you get increased water flows," President of Replant Clarksville, Jeff Robinson, said.
Replant Clarksville is having a launch party on May 12. Their goal is to plant 3,300 new trees in 3 years.
