Description

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office seized cash, weapons and drugs from a man with a prior felony conviction — and it all started with an early Friday morning traffic stop.

Authorities conducted a traffic stop for a window tint violation and failure to maintain proper lane control shortly after 2 a.m. Friday. The driver, Derick Kiner, consented to a vehicle search, which reportedly revealed that Kiner was in possession of "a large amount of U.S. currency that was bundled in a manner consistent with drug activity."

Detectives had also established probable cause to search Kiner's residence through a year-long investigation. After obtaining and executing a search warrant, the PCSO said Kiner was in possession of:

  • About $118,000 in bundled cash
  • About 5 ounces of cocaine
  • A digital scale
  • A handgun
  • A rifle
  • Ammunition

Additionally, the PCSO said that Kiner has a felony drug conviction and is believed to have gang affiliation. Kiner was charged with the manufacture, sale and delivery of cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bond has been set at $500,000 and he has a court date set for June 9.

“We will not tolerate any gang-related activity in our community," Sheriff Eddie Farris said. "My Deputies and I are commited to using every tool at our disposal to hold these individuals accountable. The safety and wellbeing of Putnam County Citizens remains my top priority, and we will continue to work to keep our community safe and free from these bad actors.”

The PCSO said the agency received assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
