Frances Hargis Long, 84, of Portland, passed from this life on Monday May 5, 2025, at The Waters of Springfield. There will be a time of visitation with the family on Thursday, May 8th, at the Robertson County Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Ms. Frances was born September 23, 1940, in Nashville, to the late Ira John and Mary Polk Hargis. She was a retired cafeteria worker at East Robertson Elementary School and was of the Church of Christ faith. Ms. Frances enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and mowing her yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ray Dean Long, and by her son: Ray Dean Long, Jr.
Ms. Frances is survived by her children: Judy Suter of Greenbrier, Barbara (David) Sneed of Springfield, Jason (Kim) Long of Springfield, and Kelly Groves of Orlinda, by her grandchildren: Emily Suter, Megan Suter, Michelle Suter, Tyler Sneed, Taylor Logsdon, Molly Long, Seth Long, and Jacob Long, by her five great grandchildren, and by her brother: Tommy Hargis.

Darla (Sliger) Goad
February 21, 1966 ~ May 6, 2025
59 Years Old
Darla Sliger Goad, 59, of Springfield, passed from this life on Tuesday May 6, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday May 10th at 5:00 p.m. at the Main Street Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time on Saturday at the Main Street Church of Christ. The family request that you please not wear black, but wear bright colors in celebration of Darla’s life.
Darla was born February 21, 1966, in Lafayette. She was a Social Worker in the healthcare field and was a member of Main Street Church of Christ. She enjoyed cooking, growing flowers, and working in her vegetable garden. She was preceded in death by her father: Carl Sliger.
Darla is survived by her husband: Johnny Goad of Springfield, by her daughters: Mary Beth (Eddie) Winter of Hawaii and Amy (Jackson) Jones of Cedar Hill, by her grandchildren: Lilly, Charlotte, and Nora Winter, Natalie and Asher Jones, by her mother; Alma Coons Sliger of Lafayette, by her brother: Andy (Shelley) Sliger of Lafayette, and by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Lance and Gail Goad of Greenbrier.
The family request that no flowers be sent and please honor Darla’s memory by donating to the American Heart Association.

Sherry Rae (Goff) Vinson

Sherry Rae Vinson, age 62 of Springfield, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Tristar NorthCrest Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Burchett officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Edward Siske, James Stratton, Glenn Stratton, Floyd Ellis, Lloyd Ellis, and Brian Goff serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 until 8 PM and Wednesday from 11 AM until the time of service.
Sherry was born December 6, 1962 in Springfield. She was a Christian and had worked at Christmas Done Bright and also cleaning houses. She was very involved with her children’s lives when they were growing up and cooking and baking. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing card games on her tablet, especially Cookie Jam. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles and listening to old school Rock & Roll.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, John Howard “Johnny” Goff and her son, Ryan Vinson. Surviving her are her daughter and son-in-law, Carie and Dennis Smith of Madison; mother, Faye Bagwell of Springfield, granddaughter, Haylee Ryan Vinson; love of her life, Randall Vinson of Springfield; brother, Brian Goff of Pelham; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Angela and Pat Looney of Springfield, Kay and Ed Siske of Dover, and Cindy Downey of Springfield.
The family request, if so desired, for memorial contributions to be made to Robertson County Funeral Home to help the family with funeral expenses.

Houston Carter
August 9, 1942 ~ May 7, 2025
82 Years Old
Charles Houston Carter, 82, of White House, passed away on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday May 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Cherry Mound Baptist Church with Dr. David Dean officiating. Interment will follow in White House Memorial Gardens with Joseph Merkel, II, William Merkel, Thomas Merkel, Joseph Merkel, III, Lucas Donica, and Harris Schoenmehl serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class at Cherry Mound Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. All visitation and funeral services will take place at Cherry Mound Baptist Church in White House.
Mr. Houston was born August 9, 1942, in Springfield, to the late Clarence Hubert and Ida Bell Dixon Carter. He was raised in Robertson County, where he enjoyed farming, butchering, and raising his family. In his earlier years, he worked as a butcher at Matthews Meat Locker, and also at Acme Boot and Goddard & Goddard. He worked for 20+ years at Oscar Mayer, and then became a local haul truck driver working for Compass/Falcon and then on to P&S Transportation until his retirement. Mr. Houston was a member of Cherry Mound Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, and he was a member of the Cross Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy Sue Reeves Carter, and by his brother: Ronnie D. Carter. Mr. Houston is survived by his daughter: Daphne Carter Bowers and husband Mitch of White House, by his sons:, Charles Kevin Carter and wife Becky of Murfreesboro, and David Michael Carter of Owensboro, KY, by his grandchildren: Ashley (Joe) Merkel and Emily Page, by his great grandchildren: Joseph Merkel, III, William Merkel, Thomas Merkel, Jensen Strain, and Elliot Strain, by his aunt: Lucille Stanley of Franklin, KY, by his daughters-in-love: Geneva Rigsby Glenn and Lisa Moss, by his 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 3 step great great grandchildren, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edna Elizabeth Dorris
August 16, 1937 — May 7, 2025

Edna Elizabeth Dorris, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 16, 1937, in Nashville, TN, Edna’s life was characterized by her kindness, love, and compassion, embodying the spirit of a devoted Christian lady.
Throughout her life, Edna nurtured a family atmosphere filled with warmth and joy. She is survived by her children: Glenda Fendley, Arnold Dorris, Aron Dorris and his wife, Pamela, and Trena Dorris. Her legacy continues through her grandson, William Fendley (Ashley), and her three great-grandchildren, Anniston, Aspen, and Azariah, who lovingly referred to her as Grandma.
Edna also cherished her brother, Elires “Patton” Morris, and sister-in-law, Nancy Ann, along with her brother-in-law, Milton Dorris and sister-in-law, Diane. She is further remembered fondly by her nephew, Mike Griffin, and his wife, Wanda.
She was a faithful member of Robertson County church of Christ.
In her younger years, Edna engaged in a variety of hobbies and interests that brought her immense joy. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and playing card games, and fondly recalled her days of bowling.
She was predeceased by her husband, Monroe Dorris, who had been her partner through many journeys, and her six beloved siblings.
A Visitation will be held in her honor on May 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, TN. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the same day, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Edna Elizabeth Dorris leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Barbara Jean Hill
July 30, 1942 — May 8, 2025
Barbara Jean Hill, born on July 30, 1942, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025. She lived a vibrant life, marked by a career as a switchboard operator for 25 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Stonecrest Medical Center. Known for her feisty and no-nonsense demeanor, Barbara also possessed a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to many. She was a loving individual, always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
Barbara had a deep love for her family, and her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Granny.” She embraced her role as a grandmother with joy, and treasured the times spent with her beloved grandchildren. In addition to her passion for family, Barbara also enjoyed crocheting and doted on her furry companion, Angel, who brought her immense happiness.
Barbara is survived by her children, Robert Joseph Hill, Jr. (Mary), Tammy (Joel) Luckett, and John “Tommy” (Shawna) Hill. She was the cherished grandmother to Jessica (Seth), Christine (Jade), Heather (Justin), Sara (KC), Robert (Jenny), John (Kelsie), and Matthew (Shannon), and she took great pride in her sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dan Hawkins (Doris).
Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Mr. Robert Joseph Hill, Sr., who she missed dearly, along with her parents, John and Mabel Hawkins, and her siblings, Donald Hawkins and Gale White.
The Hill family invites friends and loved ones to gather in memory of Barbara for visitation on May 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on May 14, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Goodlettsville, TN. A Celebration of Life will follow on May 14, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location.
Barbara Hill’s spirit, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of her family and friends.

Robert “Rob” Lee Kaukas Jr.
January 15, 1968 – May 4, 2025
Robert Lee “Rob” Kaukas, Jr. age 57 of Greenbrier passed away Sunday, May 4th, 2025 at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced.
Rob was born in Springfield, TN on January 15,1968 to the late Robert Lee Kaukas, Sr. and Ann O’Geal Mayes Kaukas. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter William Kaukas, Sr.
He is survived by former wife, Jenny Bedwell; Stepmother, Donna Kaukas; brother Troy James (Penny Witham) Kaukas; nephew, William James Kaukas; mother-in-law, Lillian Bedwell; stepchildren, Jaylynn Clay, Jeremy White; step-grandson, Braden Clay.
Rob was retired from Robertson County Schools as an Electrician. He graduated Greenbrier Hgh School and Nashville State Community College.
He served in the US Army Reserves and served his country in Desert Storm. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church. Virginia Elizabeth Hurt, age 71, of Goodlettsville passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at her home. She was born July 4, 1953 in Hurlong, CA to James Larry & Dixie Lane Parks Pace. She worked as a sales clerk for Dollar General Store and other retail stores over the years and was a member of Way Cross Church of Christ. She enjoyed taking scenic drives, fireside chats, weekend trips, crocheting and playing cards.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Linda Curtis; brother, Jimmy Pace. She is survived by her son, Shawn Cate, TN; brother, Chris (Lori) Pace, Nashville, TN; sister, Cindy (Ed) Spivey, Goodlettsville, TN. Michael Clayton Lusk age 64 of Springfield passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025 at his home. He was born January 7. 1961 to George Clayton & Shirley Ann Goldstrom Lusk in Auburn, NY. He had worked as a Telecommunications Engineer for Aerospace and for NASA. He loved airplanes and working in that industry. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danne Leroy Stedwell; sister, Linda Tipton.
He is survived by his son, Joshua Lusk; daughter, Andrea Lusk; mother of his children, Rosa Morrow, all of Nashville, TN; brother, David Lusk, Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Deborah (Tim) Lawrence, Clearwater, FL and Alaina Bearden, Birmingham, AL; Ruthy and Fuzzy his two shih tzu dogs. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2025 at Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery at 9am with military honors.
