NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — New safety measures are being put in place at a dangerous train line along Wedgewood-Houston after neighbors fought for a change.
New pedestrian lighting is set to be placed under the bridge crossing at Fifth Avenue.
Tuesday night, the Metro Council approved the installation of the new pedestrian lights.
The change comes after a man was hit and killed by a train on Third Avenue South less than a week ago.
Neighbors said they've been concerned about the CSX train line for years, and with delayed traffic and the recent tragedy, it's become a daily problem they're hoping will soon be over.
District 17 Councilmember Terry Vo said she's continuing to work with the mayor on furthering solutions to continue making the train line safer.
"My hope is that we do not let this individual's death be in vain," Vo said. "How do we work together so that we never have another incident like this?"
News 2 has reached out to the councilmembers who sponsored the bill to find out when the new lights will be installed.
