Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nashville's Department of Transportation is targeting distracted drivers across the city with the second half of its 2025 traffic calming projects.
NDOT is focused on tackling speeders and traffic volume in specific neighborhoods. NDOT’s neighborhood street traffic calming approach includes three different types of traffic calming treatments: pinch points, surface treatments and intersections.
Pinch points are traffic calming tools that narrow the street in specific locations. Surface treatments raise the street surface in specific locations at regular intervals, and NDOT plans to treat intersections to reduce turning speeds and reduce cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets.
To encourage drivers to slow down and make better decisions, NDOT is placing traffic enforcement across several Nashville districts.
NDOT staff selected 25 neighborhood streets out of 600 submissions from different communities. The fall 2025 selection was based upon five different factors including vehicular speed, the volume of cars traveling on the street each day, non-driver accommodations like sidewalks and bikeways, pedestrian or bicycle crashes and trip destinations such as parks, schools, libraries and community centers.
The project is targeting streets in areas like:
