NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — More people are getting pulled over than ever in Nashville.
Traffic stops by Metro police are up 59% compared to this time in 2024.
Metro Council members said that the increase is due to an initiative that puts more patrol officers on the streets.
Metro Council and police said they're working together for a safer Nashville.
"We want people to drive safe and get home safe," District 19 Metro Councilmember Jacob Kupin said.
Data shows traffic stops increased the most in the West, South and Central districts, and they fell by 5.6% in East Nashville.
These stats don't include traffic stops conducted by other law enforcement agencies.
The new data comes after Metro Council passed a resolution urging police to increase patrols.
Kupin said the results are encouraging for Metro Council and that it also helps protect pedestrians and bikers.
