DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A head-on collision near the DeKalb County line sent multiple people to the hospital early Saturday morning.
DeKalb County first responders were called just after 2:30 a.m. to a crash on Smithville Highway after two vehicles crashed head-on. In photos shared by officials, one of the vehicles remained on the roadway while the other appeared to have crashed into a ditch after the collision.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department deputies reportedly arrived to find a vehicle on fire with one person trapped inside and another person outside of the vehicle. Deputies used fire extinguishers to contain the flames until firefighters arrived to complete the rescue operation.
According to the DeKalb County Fire Department, a person stuck inside the second vehicle was "severely" pinned inside.
After they were extracted, all three people involved in the crash were transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center in unknown condition.
