MT. JULIET (WKRN) — A new townhome development off Lebanon Road has left some Mt. Juliet residents frustrated about the construction.
A longtime resident who lives near the area said the construction is causing drainage issues on his property.
Last year, the Mt. Juliet Board of Commissioners approved a townhome plan for 13506 Lebanon Road. The townhomes are still under construction.
Rion Edwards said the drainage issue has caused water to not only sink into his yard, but it continues to cause issues when driving on the street. He said the side of Lebanon Road where the construction is taking place is a main side road in Mt. Juliet for police and emergency vehicles.
Edwards said the problem is becoming a safety issue for neighbors that needs to be fixed.
"The problem becomes more of a safety issue than anything else because of the ponding," Edwards said. "You're really risking a terrible hydroplane, and it's really just a matter of time."
Edwards filed a complaint with the City of Mt. Juliet regarding the drainage issue in September 2024. He said moving forward, he wants Mt. Juliet commissioners to focus on handling infrastructure before they continue trying to expand.

"I keep seeing one forest after another being completely mowed down," Edwards said. "They keep saying it's progress, but at some point, you have to realize you need to stop it; there's a balance."
Edwards said the Wilson County Stormwater Group did respond quickly in helping to dig a ditch for the drainage. For now, he hopes the problem does not become a bigger safety hazard.
