MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Friday, the Mt. Juliet Police Department announced that they had made three arrests across multiple traffic stops with the help of license plate recognition technology.

Officers with the MJPD responded to a gym after a woman's purse was stolen from her locker on June 18. Though authorities were able to recover the purse, some important items were missing. Surveillance video showed a suspect entering through an emergency exit and leaving in an SUV; through LPR technology, officers identified the vehicle and secured warrants for the suspect's arrest.

The 27-year-old Nashville woman was arrested for the theft and for outstanding theft warrants out of South Carolina. Additionally, Mt. Juliet officers said they found meth and fentanyl in her possession. However, the theft suspect was not the only arrest to come out of this incident.

The driver of the SUV, a 44-year-old Nashville man, was also found to be in possession of meth and fentanyl. Upon further investigation, MJPD officers were led to a third suspect on South Lakeview Drive. The third suspect was reportedly wanted on four felony probation violation warrants out of Nashville for drug sales, illegal firearm possession and vehicle theft.

In a separate incident along Interstate 40 last Wednesday, an MJPD officer reportedly saw a vehicle speeding at over 115 miles per hour. When the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect fled. Instead of engaging in a high-speed chase, the officer gathered the license plate information and input the details into the LPR system.

The vehicle in question entered Mt. Juliet on Lebanon Road from Nashville Friday, police said. Officers were able to stop the car and identify the 21-year-old Lebanon man behind the wheel as the same driver who fled from police last week. Authorities also discovered that he was driving on a suspended license.
