WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — More people in Wilson County who are 65 or older will be eligible for a freeze on their property taxes.

During a June 16 meeting of the Wilson County Commission, a resolution was passed to increase the income limit for property tax freeze eligibility — which is a program meant for people 65 or older on a fixed income.

“As always, Wilson County strives to assist our senior adults in any way that we can. Last
October, Wilson County received a Certificate of Commitment for becoming an Age-Friendly
Community in the AARP network," Wilson County Mayor Randall Hutto said in a press release announcing the program expansion. "At the time, Wilson County was 1 of only 2 counties in the
state to achieve that certification. Our community supports senior adults in many ways, and the
property tax freeze is one small way that we can help enhance the quality of life for our seniors."

For the 2026 tax year, the income will be raised from $51,790 to $63,470. As of publication, it is still tax year 2025, so residents will pay 2025 taxes on their October bill. Qualifying residents will be frozen at the tax rate set in June 2026. The adjusted gross income and Social Security benefits are calculated after medical is deducted; if that amount is less than the new limit, you'll be approved and your property taxes will stay frozen until the next tax year.

If you qualify and want to apply for the program, you can find more application information on the back of your tax bill. For the 2026 tax season, applicants will need their 2025 tax return, driver license, Social Security and Medicare cards — and that applies to everyone on the property deed verified by the Wilson County Trustee's Office.
