NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman shot Monday morning in a Dickerson Pike parking lot has died from her injuries.
Homicide detectives conducted witness interviews at the scene of the shooting, at 3711 Dickerson Pike, early Monday morning. They came to the conclusion, from those interviews and with the evidence obtained, that 16-year-old Martavious Luster and two other armed people — who remain unidentified — tried to rob 19-year-old Janiyah Batey.
According to the MNPD, Luster said he was wearing a ski mask and was armed with a gun when he approached Batey. During what police called a brief altercation, Batey and the others exchanged gunfire.
Officials believe Batey's gunfire struck 16-year-old Demario Anderson, who was found dead at the scene. Police said Batey was shot and drove off before crashing. Officers found her inside the wrecked vehicle, and she was taken to Skyline Medical Center in "extremely critical condition."
According to a news release from the Metro Nashville Police Department, she later died from her injuries. MNPD officials added that 16-year-old Luster is accused of criminal homicide.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify the other two suspects involved.
