NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department arrested a man on multiple felony charges after he allegedly fled from authorities during a Thursday morning traffic stop.
Matho Collins, 29, reportedly drove away from a nightclub on Ewing Lane in a Dodge Charger with no headlights on around 1 a.m. Thursday. Detectives with the MNPD's Specialized Investigations Division saw Collins, who then allegedly started speeding on Dickerson Pike.
Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop because of the speeding, but Collins reportedly refused to pull over. With an MNPD helicopter monitoring the situation, a spike strip was deployed along Brick Church Pike to deflate his tires, and the Charger stopped on Broadmoor Drive near Ellington Parkway where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The MNPD said that Collins reported he threw items from the car after the initial traffic stop. Police identified those items as a pistol as well as a bag with about 20 grams of fentanyl, 28 grams of marijuana and a digital scale.
He has been charged with felony fentanyl possession, felony marijuana possession, unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon and felony evading arrest. As of publication, Collins is being held in lieu of a $116,000 bond. The MNPD added that federal charges against him are possible.
According to the MNPD, Collins has parole releases related to prior aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary offenses.
