NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 3-year-old girl who was involved in a head-on collision last week has died, News 2 has learned.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, 3-year-old Kaylie Norwood died on Sunday.
MNPD officials said Kaylie was in the car with her mother, 35-year-old Karlisha Norwood, and her 2-year-old brother on Wednesday, July 16, around 8:15 a.m. when Karlisha was traveling eastbound on Harding Pike.
Police said Karlisha was weaving in and out of traffic before crossing into the westbound lanes of travel and hitting a pickup truck head on.
Karlisha was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she is still recovering. Kaylie and her brother were taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. The pickup truck driver was treated and released.
According to the MNPD, Karlisha is facing two counts of vehicular assault, child endangerment, aggravated child abuse, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, DUI, and driving without insurance. She will be arrested when she is discharged from the hospital.
Authorities said Karlisha told investigators she had taken prescription medication before the crash occurred.
Police did not give further information about Karlisha's condition and her son's condition.
