NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Germantown community continues to shed light on the tragic crash that killed 77-year-old Dot Dobbins, who was struck in a crosswalk on 3rd Avenue North.
Tomorrow, a memorial tree will be planted in her honor.
Joe Nuzzo, who lives in Germantown, has been an advocate for safer crosswalks in the neighborhood. He said the memorial tree is a small way the community can show Dobbins' family how much she is missed.
The memorial tree will be planted across the street from where Dobbins was struck and skilled by a car in June. Nuzzo told News 2 the reason they chose a tree to remember Dobbins is because the life of a tree is impactful to a community for years, just like Dobbins was.
Nuzzo said they will continue to push for change when it comes to pedestrian safety in Germantown. He hopes whne people see Dobbins' tree, they will remember her and be inspired to always fight for the betterment of their community.
The tree planting ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Morgan Park. Dobbins' family plans to be in attendance.
