MARSHALL COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Archers from all over the world are competing in Marshall County this weekend. The IHAA World Championships in Lewisburg will welcome more than 50 athletes from 20 countries.
Riders will compete to showcase speed, skill and accuracy in what is described as horseback archery's premier international event.
Teams are competing at Rising Glory Farms through Sunday.
Marshall County leaders said the county jumped at the chance to host an event of this size.
Organizers said they don't know if the event will draw hundreds or thousands, but the county is preparing for a major tourism boost.
"And we talked about people from other countries, as many, as numerous as they are coming to your county, the number of athletes that are coming, and exposure of the world to Marshall County and Wales, Marshall County getting exposed to other cultures as well. We this is one of these items we jumped on. We're excited about from a tourism standpoint, we're waiting to see," explained Marshall County Mayor Mike Keny.
After being ranked 53rd in the state for tourism, Marshall County leaders are hoping this event will rally the community and boost tourism
Mayor Keny hopes the event sparks interest in future international competitions.
