NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One of Nashville's most popular music venues is set to have new management.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell announced that Metro has reached a 10-year agreement with Opry Entertainment Group to manage Ascend Amphitheater.

The Metro-owned venue, located between Ryman Auditorium and Bridgestone Arena, has been operated by Live Nation for the past decade. However, if all goes according to plan, O'Connell says Opry Entertainment Group will take the reins and invest $11 million in facility upgrades and up to $1 million to improve and relocate the surrounding public greenway.

"This 10-year agreement brings with it major investments in one of our most beloved outdoor facilities," said O'Connell. "Opry Entertainment Group will make a minimum of $11 million in facility improvements, and importantly, they'll deliver on a commitment I made as a council member and repeated as mayor, to fix access to the Greenway during events."

The agreement is set to go before Metro Council for the first of three readings on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
